Bridget Bishop

Merry Meet,

"She struggled to breathe as her stomach flipped over in knots knowing that this was to be one of the last breaths she took... she felt the breeze blowing her dress in the wind and she tried to deafen out the noise of the people cheering as she felt the rope start to tighten around her neck. She took another deep breath trying to keep her knees steady knowing what was coming......A sickening thud was the last thing she heard with the roar in her ears as the world went dark."

From the time I was little I was always fascinated with the Salem Witch Trials. To this day I still love the town of Salem. The old sea town has always felt comforting to me. We've all hear the hype about the Salem Witch trials and the fact that the "afflicted girls" made up a lot of malarky to get attention and manipulate society. That's for another article completely. Today I wanted to focus in on Bridget Bishop. She was one of the nineteen people convicted and executed for witchcraft in the Salem trials. Out of all those accused, I was always drawn to her name.

There are various websites and books that write about her, and everyone has their own take on Bridget Bishop. I have kept the facts in the article I've used as accurate as I can using a general consensus from everything I have read throughout the years and to prepare for this article. A lot of her life story that I am including here was used against her in her trial.

Background on Bridget Bishop

Bridget Playfair, known as Bridget Bishop was born in England in 1640. However, biographical records on those from the Massachusetts Bay Colony are difficult to find, so this date is an estimate. Her date of birth has been estimated in documents from 1632 to 1640.

Bridget Bishop was married three times. A fact alone that didn't go over well in a Puritan society.

First Marriage

On April 13, 1660, Bridget married George Wesselbe at St. Mary-in-the-Marsh, Norwich, Norfolk, England. This was her first marriage and she was about the age of twenty. It is said that after their marriage the two came to the Massachusetts Bay Colony and settled in Salem. There is speculation about if they came together because George's immigration records have never been found. However, as stated earlier it is not uncommon for records to be missing for the Bay Colony. He passed away after just six years of being married. She had two children from the first marriage according to church baptist records but both children died very young.

Second Marriage

On July 26, 1666, she was married to Thomas Oliver. Mr Oliver was a widower who was known to be a prominent business man. In 1667 she had a daughter that ironically was either named Christian or Christina. It is said that she also had a daughter named Mary. Bridgette and Thomas's marriage was known to be a rough marriage. She was seen many times in town with bruises or a bloody face from confrontations with her husband. They were known to fight in public which was not tolerated in a Puritan community. In 1670 she was tried for fighting with Thomas Oliver. It is said that she called him an “old rogue” and “old devil” on the Sabbath. A few years later they were both tried for fighting in public. Bridget and her husband were ordered to stand back to back bound and gagged in the main market area for an hour, with notes describing what they had done attached to their foreheads.

Thomas Oliver passed away in 1679. Bridgette Bishop was destitute and had to petition the town for assistance. It is not clear why she was left that way though. There are two different stories. One says that because she was not the "normal" Puritan domicile wife that her husband accused her of being a witch. However another story says that he simply owed a ton a money and once he passed on his assets were claimed to pay his debt.

First Formal Accusation of Witchcraft

In 1680, after his death, Bridget was actually brought up on charges of witchcraft and accused of causing Thomas Oliver's death. She was tried in Boston. At her trial the minister of her church was allowed to testify on her behalf convincing the jury that she was a member in good standing of the church. With his testimony and the lack of evidence Bridget was acquitted of all charges.

Third Marriage

In 1687, Bridget married Edward Bishop, a sawyer from Beverly. A sawyer back then, was the man who was responsible for going out and getting all sorts of wood, from wood for the fires to timber for the ships. They typically worked in teams of two to get the lumber. Bridget opened a tavern at their house for the travelers. She was known for providing refreshments, entertainment and games of shovel-board, and having the tavern open very late. In her time though, the primary method of travel was horseback, so there were many travelers going by her home on their way in and out of time. Shovel-board was actually one of the games that was allowed in the community she lived in.

Bridget was known for the black cape and hat that she always wore and her red bodice. In those times it was considered rather showy attire. Regardless of how people spoke of her, Bridget was not one to care what society thought of her. She was an independent woman who wasn't afraid to live outside the norms of a very conservative society. Her lack of conforming made her a target of the witchcraft hysteria.

Edward Bishop, was also a widower and had three children from his previous marriage to Hannah. One of the children was named Edward after him. His son Edward was born in 1648. He married Sarah Wilds, daughter of William Wilds of Ipswich.

Arrested for Witchcraft

On April 18, 1692, Bridget Bishop was arrested for Witchcraft. Bishop's response to the accusations was: "I am innocent, I know nothing of it, I have done no witchcraft... I am as innocent as the child unborn....I have made no contact with the Devil, I have never seen him before in my life.

Her Accusers

Bridget was accused by the "afflicted girls", Abigail Williams, Ann Putnam Jr, Mercy Lewis, Mary Walcott, and Elizabeth Hubbard. Bridget claimed that she had never met any of the girls.

William Stacy was another man who accused Bridget of being a witch. Interestingly enough she had helped to heal his child earlier in time.

John and William Bly, a father and son testified against Bridget claiming that when they were hired to work on her house they found poppets in her basement. Poppets are small dolls, they are supposedly similar to vodoo dolls.

Samuel Shattuck, a local tanner, testified against her that she had asked him to die small pieces of clothing, like what would be used on a doll.

Richard Conan testified that Bridget Bishop kept appearing to him at night in spectral form.

The Trial

Bridget was charged, tried and executed in eight days. On June 10, 1692, Bridget was hung on Gallows hill in Salem. She was the first of nineteen people to be executed for witchcraft during this time. On the day of her hanging she did not show remorse and continued to proclaim her innocence.

The Aftermath

Many were disturbed by her trial and the outcome of her trial. After her death the court took a recess and there were no more executions until a month after her death. One of the judges, Nathaniel Salstonstall resigned after her death.

Edward Bishop Jr and Sarah Bishop

Edward Bishop Jr (son of Bridgette's husband) and his wife Sarah Bishop were accused of witchcraft in the summer of 1692. They escaped from jail in Boston in September.

Proclaimed Innocent

In 1992, The Danvers Tercentennial Committee persuaded the Massachusetts House of Representatives to issue a resolution honoring those who had died. After much convincing and hard work by Salem school teacher Paula Keene, Representatives J. Michael Ruane and Paul Tirone and others, the names of all those not previously listed as exonerated were added to this resolution. It was finally signed on October 31, 2001, by Governor Jane Swift, more than 300 years later, Bridget Bishop and all involved were proclaimed innocent.

My intent with this article was not to rehash the Salem witch trials as I think everyone is familiar. I wanted to paint a clearer portrait of one woman who was involved in the trials. A strong independent woman who was ahead of her times. A woman not afraid to stand up for herself and voice her opinion.
I've seen debate on the possibility if Bridget may have been a witch. I do believe she was a witch in that she was a healer. I have read several accounts of her working with herbs and trying to heal people around her. When the people were sick, Bridget was called on quite often. She is one of the few that went to trial that I have intuitively felt was a witch. However, not the definition of a witch in their time as one that worshiped the devil. One that worked with the earth, and the elements and herbs to try to help others around her. Regardless of if she was or wasn't she didn't deserve to die for it, and she certainly didn't fit the definition of "witch" that they had at that time.

I am always interested in learning more so if anyone has any additional information about her, I would love to hear them. :)))) I found a lot of conflicting information and I must confess I spent quite a few hours trying to wade through it and sort out what really happened.

Back to Basics

Merry Meet :)))

I've been blessed this winter here in Massachusetts as our winter has been sprinkled with some warmer days in between.  The other day it was fifty degrees outside and I made a decision to use the majority of the day to get back to basics.  My son has preschool in the afternoon so right when I dropped him off at school I decided to go for a long walk around my hometown.  I used the camera on my phone to take pictures of some of the historic buildings in my town and a couple other things that caught my fancy along the route.  It just felt amazing to get outside without it being biting cold and take a walk around looking at everything.  I tried to envision my town as if I was seeing it for the first time.  It's amazing how different everything looks when you just shift your perspective.

When it was time, I made my way back to the car and picked up my son from preschool.  I had gotten a large spiral ham from the grocery store the other day.  Fabulous deal! I got a 10 pound ham for under twenty dollars. :)))  So my son and I came home and scrubbed some potatoes to go with the ham and popped it in the oven.  We then went outside to have a fire. :)))

We spent the next almost four hours outside working on our fire.  I don't have a stock of firewood yet, although I'm hoping to get one going this year.  So we mosied around the yard taking dead branches off the tree as the majority of my yard still has a blanket of snow on it.  My daughter was home too by this point and it was quite the sight to see my children climbing trees in their snowsuits. We have a grove of trees in the back corner of our property and we've been cleaning it up to make a "fort" for them.  The little river in my backyard runs by it and it's becoming a very pretty spot to lounge in the yard. I know it's one we will love during the hot summer days.

Around 6:30 it was finally really dark outside and we were all tired and hungry.  When we came inside it was amazing to smell the ham baking in the oven.  It was a smoked ham so the smoked sugary smell just filled my entire house.  Between that and the way we all smelled from being around the fire it was definitely a delight to the nose.

After dinner we all went outside into the jaccuzzi.  It's an older one, over 10 years old but it's still working.  Unfortunately there were lots of clouds so we weren't able to see the stars that night but it was still amazing.

When we came back in and I got dressed I walked into the kitchen and stopped in my tracks.   There on the floor in the middle of the kitchen was a sillyband that looked like an angel.  Now this might not seem a very big deal but we had all been in the kitchen on and off for the last hour and that silly band was not there.  The floor was clean.  The band was perfectly straight, right where I would see it as if it was waiting for me.  The first thing I did was question both my children and they both said it wasn't theirs and they hadn't put it there.  I can usually tell when they are lying.  So I took it as a sign.  Often times when I actually slow down, get back to basics and spend time in nature, or do something else that I feel I was intended too I will get a sign.

It was the perfect touch to the end of my day.  Just an amazing day to be able to have in the middle of winter. :)))))) I always feel relaxed when I get back to basics.

I've also been doing a lot of work with meditations and working on letting go and just trusting in the universe that I will be taken care of.  Financial issues are huge for me as I am rebuilding a business for myself.  I found it interesting that the day I wasn't on the computer obsessing about if I was going to ever be able to replace my income my profits tripled.  Not that it was a ton of income but a significant shift on a day I wasn't at my computer.  Coincidence? or reward because I let go and trusted that day.

Pure Imagination

Merry Meet :))))

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.  When I awoke this morning I had this song stuck in my head.  It's from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.  Some of you probably remember it.  I haven't seen the movie in ages.  I use to watch it when I was little. :))) In any event, the lyrics are just perfect so I wanted to share them with all of you.  Hold your breath and make a wish.... Now count to three :))))

Pure Imagination

Come with me and you'll be
In a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see
Into your imagination

We'll begin with a spin
Trav'ling in the world of my creation
What we'll see will defy

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world,
There's nothing to it

There is no life I know
To compare with pure imagination
Living there, you'll be free
If you truly wish to be

You will find in your mind
There's a world of endless fascination
No more fun place to be
Than in your imagination

Take me by the hand
Let us run from the little
little little
Little, little little funny land
Come on c'mon
C'mon let's go to the little land

You can dream, any dream
You can savor every situation
Life in there's a sensational

If you want to see magic lands
Close your eyes and you will see one
Wanna be a dreamer, be one
Anytime you please, and please save me one

There is no place to go
To compare with your imagination
So go there to be free
If you truly wish to be.

A New Moon Spell to Boost Your Self Esteem

Merry Meet,

Tonight is the New Moon. :)))    The New Moon is a day of New Beginnings, establishing new habits and bringing things towards you. The moon being in Aquarius is a rebellious energy. It's a good time to break habits and make abrupt changes. Personal freedom and individuality is the focus. I've seen a lot of you looking for a good ole dose of positivity and self esteem lately, myself included. :)) So for tonight I have a spell that I would love for all of you to work with me.  It involves taking a bath ;) You up for it? Have to love baths, especially with lavender and candles.  So lets celebrate the new moon together by taking some time for us and giving ourselves a big hug and a boost of self esteem.  You ready? :))))) Enjoy!

Love and Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong

A Spell to Boost Your Self Esteem

What You Need
 - Lavender Essential oil
 - Jasmine Essential oil
 - An essential oil burner
 - Seven green oak leaves (or basil, if oak is out of season)
 - One purple candle
 - One yellow candle
 - Purple Thread
 - An envelope

Light the candles, run a warm (not hot) bath and drizzle some of the lavender oil into the water.  Float the leaves in the bath and climb in.  Breathe in through your nose and hold your breath to the count of seven.  Breathe in and out through your mouth to the count of seven and then seven more.  When you breathe in visualize your lungs filling up with warm, golden light.  As you breathe out, see your frustrations in your breath and watch your anger, pain and any other barriers between you and the rest of the world leave you.

Now, totally relaxed and at ease with yourself, visualize a spot of golden light above you.  Watch it get bigger and bigger before it floats down and your body is enveloped in it's warm glow.  At this point, say the words that follow:

"I have a contribution to make.
I have words to say.
Let others hear the words I speak,
And take self-doubt away.
And let it be done, that it harm no one."

Repeat the words six more times and when you feel ready, leave the bath and snuff out the candles in the usual way.  Thread the oak (or basil leaves) on the thread, hold them up to the light and repeat the words one more time.  Now fold the leaves into the envelope and put them in your handbag or wallet.

Whenever you have a bad day, first thing the following morning, heat the jasmine oil in the burner, re-light the candles and hold the leaves up to the flames, repeating the words seven times in all and face the new day with new confidence.

When the leaves die, repeat the original spell and it won't be long before you are brimming with self-confidence and no longer have need of it.

Blowing Up Computers

Merry Meet :))))

Right so I had this absolutely brilliant article going on Bridget Bishop for you ;), but after blowing up my second computer in less then three days, I will be putting my article out on her at the end of this week. :P :))))

Yep you read that right.  I personally managed to blow up two computers in under three days. Awesome huh? :))) Hence why I've been so quiet this week.  I blew up the first one on Thursday. My main laptop, with all my important documents on it.  Thank goodness I back up all my pictures on an external hard drive.  But I lost everything else.  Among that was my book on being an Empath.  I managed to get back a couple beginning bits of it which I am grateful for.

I woke up Thursday morning and turned on my computer.  There was an ad on there for Corel Photo storage. I didn't think much about it just tried to shut the computer down.  It wasn't responding.  I tried clicking on the task manager.... still nothing.   Being half asleep I gave it a few minutes decided to grab a coffee, came back to some message that I couldn't read before my computer went blip and shut down.

That was it.  I was able to access the Bios after that, but nothing further.  My hard-drive on that computer is apparently cooked.  I've never had a computer just die completely like that.  I'm well versed in viruses and getting my information off of the computer before I have to do something to bring it back. Never just had one go black.  Lesson number 1 of the week.  I will be backing up my writing on a zip drive from now on.  Always thought I'd be able to get a couple small folders off my computer if push came to shove.

So I took it to a guy who fixes computers round here, got the same verdict Saturday morning that I had thought, hard-drive is no good.  So I will be doing that when I can get the part in and the money for the part.

I'll be ok though I thought I still have my old laptop.  While it's missing some keys and slow as a turtle I can make a go of it till I can work out a solution for the other one.  So I get setup with that on Friday.  I didn't want to be on the computer more then I had to the rest of Thursday.  Friday I spent about 6 hours working on an article for the Pagan Blog Project on Bridget Bishop.  Was doing a lot of extra research to make sure I had my info right for all of you.  You will see it the end of this week hopefully provided this computer doesn't blow up again. :) lol  Saturday morning I wake up and am ready to finish up the article. .

I'm never on this computer so I run virus scan.  Find a virus.  Awesome! lol Just what I want to see.  Remove the virus go to update Service Pack 2 and this computer hangs on stage three of the update.  Long story short I spent 5 hours working on this computer.  Had to wipe it completely, restore factory settings.  All my research, poof! lol

So I've been stressing all of today on how I am going to get this article out, or an article beginning with the letter B for the Pagan Blog Project.  So here it is.  Week three Pagan Blog Project, B is for Blowing up Computers. :))))

I will overcome this.   I will have a much better letter "B" article for you this week I promise ;) I just figured I would write and let everyone know what's going on over here.  I have been taking lots of Baths, and Burning lots of incense, as well as reading Books that are NOT on the computer. :P :)))))

I hope everyone is having a little easier of a time.  I will be working a spell to improve my luck. :P Just kidding.  I honestly am taking it as a sign.  Probably analyzing things more then I should. But I do have a tendency to work myself like crazy in too many directions and I think I'm getting not so gentle nudges to take some time down and relax a bit and just have faith that everything will work itself out somehow.  I have also gotten a reminder about being more diligent about storing information. :)

Love and Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong

p.s. I would design a graphic for this, but I have no graphics program at the moment! :)))))  Hoping to have things back in a couple weeks.  I can still write though. :)))))

Give Yourself Permission

Graphic by Jasmeine Moonsong

Merry Meet,

Today is the day to give yourself permission.   "Permission for what?", you're asking me.  Today is the day to give yourself permission to be who you are.  Sounds simple right? That's what I thought as I read what was before me, and I was shocked at how many lines in the article I was saying, "wow I don't do that!".   I love Goddess Leonie.  She is just amazing.  Her spirit is tremendous and she has a way to uplift the spirit like no-one else I know.  She is responsible for the World Wide Summit which I told you about awhile back.  She sent me an email called "You have permission" a couple of weeks ago.  It came with a graphic and a recording of her reading what she wrote.  I threw it on while I was working on a graphic intending to listen to it while I worked.  I stopped working after the first sentence and sat there and listened to it.  I've since listened to it several more times since that day.  It's amazing how simple but profoundly effective it is.  As you work on your path to find your true self, I thought many of you will find this a very useful tool, so I wanted to pass it along.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I listened to it several times while designing the graphic above.  I hope you enjoy it as well. :)))   On her page with this original post you will find the recording of what is written below. :))) You Have Permission  Again Special Thanks to Goddess Leonie for being such an amazing inspiration.

Love and Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong

You have permission

Today, and everyday, you have permission.

You have permission to say no to demands on your time that don’t light you up, and don’t give energy back to you.

You have permission to not give a crap what’s happening outside your world, and keep your energy focused on what you are creating.

You have permission to let go of friendships that make you feel like shit.

You have permission to say no whenever you like, however you like, in whatever kind of voice you like, without feeling like only Mean Girls Say No and Nice Girls Say Yes. That’s bull. Yes and No have equal weighting – what’s important is if you use them when they are the best thing for you, not out of fear, obligation or guilt.

You have permission to know that Yes is powerful, and so is No. The power comes from you using either from your highest spirit and truest integrity.

You have permission to change. You have permission to not be the person you once were.

You have permission to get angry and self-righteous, and to also glean the wisdom from those emotions. They are leading you to where your boundaries are, and where they have been crossed, and what you need to do from now on.

You have permission to be exactly how you are.

You have permission to not be more like anyone else in the world, even if you think they are better, wiser or more popular. You have permission to be more like yourself, your gifts and your wisdom.

You have permission to not care what other people think of you.

You have permission to not try to change what other people think of you. You can’t ever argue that you are a good person. They will either know you are, or not. You don’t need to spend time with people who don’t believe in you.

You have permission to do things that your friends and family do not.

You have permission to be wild, expressive, truthful, exciting and outspoken.

You have permission to not accept friendship requests on Facebook, or anywhere else in your life. You have permission to block people whenever you like.

You have permission to share as much or as little as you like. You have permission to blog, or not blog. You have permission to Twitter, or not to Twitter. It doesn’t really matter. As long as it’s making you happy, that’s the best thing.

You have permission to suck at a wide variety of activities. It’s okay. You make up for it with your million other brilliance particles.

You have permission to be whatever body shape you like.

You have permission to choose, and choose again. And then choose again.

You have permission to not always be a perfect image of something.

You have permission to be a contradiction.

You have permission to not go to your school reunion, unless it really excites you and delights you, and you would love to really heart-reconnect with people you went to school with.

You have permission to not be interested in the newest fad: harem pants, geek glasses, polaroid cameras, scrapbooking, macrame. You also have permission to be totally obsessed with them, if it makes your heart light up.

You have permission to cut people from your life. You have permission to surround yourself with people who are good and loving and nurturing to you.

You have permission to be a disappointment to some people, as long as you’re not a disappointment to yourself.

You have permission to do nothing whenever you like.

You have permission to make your big dream come true.

You have permission to not do it all perfectly, or have all your shit together.

You have permission to not forgive people. You have permission to forgive people when it’s right for you.

You have permission to think some people are crazy. You have permission to think some people are smigging ice-cream with chocolate and wafers and sprinkles and cherries on top.

You have permission to not have the perfect relationship.

You have permission to not have a relationship.

You have permission to take whatever time you need for you.

You have permission to make ridiculous choices for yourself.

You have permission to use and listen to your intuition. To feel when things are off, and to remove yourself from them, even when you don’t quite know why. You will always find out why. Our intuition is here to serve us.

You have permission to be down. You have permission to be up.

You have permission to still believe in unicorns and fairies.

You have permission to believe in things that other people think are very very odd and strange. You have permission to not care. You have permission to believe in things that make your life wholer, richer and deeper. You have permission to make your own world that is the truest painting of you.

You have permission to suck at colouring in.

You have permission to say bugger off to anyone who has ever told you that you’re not good enough, you’re not worth it, you are not beautiful, you are not lovable and you are not the most divine, wise, delicious Goddess to walk the planet.

You have permission to know that you are.

You have permission to swear when you like, however you like, to your reckless abandon.

You have permission to not be the best of anything – just the best of yourself. And some days, just the best you can do that day.

You have permission to not always give. You have permission to fill your own cup up first.

You have permission to have things around you that delight you.

You have permission to live in a tipi if you want to, or a mansion. Whatever makes your spirit shine is the right thing for you.

You have permission to make choices on whether it makes your spirit shine.

You have permission to know you are a goddess, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Even when you feel utterly human. Even when you want nothing more than to climb under your blanket, or light up the sky.

You are a goddess.

You have permission.

You have permission.

You have permission.

Being an Empath and Having the Flu

Merry Meet,

As I emerge from the dark woods, I am able to look back and see the light that was behind me if I could have seen it......

I apologize for my absence the last week.  I have been fighting the flu, literally.  A bit over a week ago I had a cold.  I laughed as I went about my daily routine with my sniffs and coughs.  I've been working so hard on myself physically and emotionally I honestly thought I was invincible.  I kept up my walking every day, and we had a warm weather streak here so I found myself outside doing yardwork.  I boasted about how well I was doing working through my cold.

The universe laughed back at me a couple days later when I found myself bedridden with a high temp, body aches, and a complete lack of being able to control my gifts.  It was a shock to me to say the least.  I found myself getting angry at the lack of emotional control I had as I found myself crying on multiple occasions throughout the day.  Even my effort to distract myself as I watched "The Bachelor" failed as I found myself bawling.  The Bachelor had lost his father and wound up on a date where they surprised him with a video of his childhood.  Watching him struggle to contain his emotions, I lost it and tears streamed down my face.  Really? Here I am teaching people to control their gifts and here I am crying about a tv show.  I was frustrated with myself to say the least.

I honestly was afraid to blog because quite frankly my spirits and confidence were wounded and I didn't trust myself emotionally.  To make matters worse I found out I had a UTI on top of it all.  I was in control of nothing, not physically or emotionally.  So I fought myself this whole week.  I am finally coming out of the cloud of having the flu and looking back I realized that I learned a lot.

I don't have to be perfect.  My stumblings will help me to help you.  I learned some tricks this past week that helped me when my traditional methods of grounding and shielding were failing me.  I also noticed that my "sight" was improved about 200% during this time.  I saw so many things this past week I found myself rubbing my eyes at what I was seeing several times and questioning my sanity.

My shield, while wonderful on a daily basis may indeed be interfering with my spirit communication.  Something I will be working on tweaking coming up soon.  I also depended quite heavily on aromatherapy and herbs during this time.  A couple tricks I found may help you when you have the flu.

Warm Baths  - These became my best friends.  Though it was a very delicate balancing act. While they soothed the aches and pains and chills, I found if I stayed in them too long I would be sick.  Something that I added to my bath that was wonderful is Dr Teal's Relax & Relief Eucalyptus Spearmint Foaming Bath. I got mine at Walmart, I linked the one at Amazon so that you could see it.

Tea - I absolutely love Traditional Medicinals Organic Chamomile with Lavender tea.  I linked a 6 box pack at Amazon but I picked mine up at Big Y for under $5.00 for one box.  This did wonders to calm my nerves and settle my tummy and my emotions.

Aromatherapy - I burn Bath & Body works stress relief eucalyptus spearmint oil in my room every night.  I had it burning almost nonstop while I was sick.  The smell did wonders to calm me.

Seltzer Water - I live on it.  Any brand will do. A while ago I gave up normal soda and I drink seltzer water all the time now.  It's just carbonated water.  I at least doubled what I drank this past week.  Water is naturally grounding as well.

Meditation - I have a few meditation apps on my phone and I used one this past week quite frequently, Andrew Johnson's Stress Free meditation.  His voice is just soooo soothing to me.  I find it hard to find time to meditate as often as I would like but what a wonderful help to me this past week it was.

My biggest obstacle to overcome was me though.  I needed to allow myself to just be and relax.  To realize it was ok to hold off on doing things and just concentrate on making myself better.  I actually broke down and put a note up on my facebook page one of the days as I just felt unable to even post my daily motivationals that I do.  Their response on there was overwhelming to me, and yes that got tears as well.  The love and support that poured out from all of you was amazing.  So thank you :))))) It made a big difference to me knowing that it was ok if I wasn't perfect for a day. :)))))  As a Virgo I'm a perfectionist . Sometimes I swear the universe was laughing when they put me here as a Virgo. lol :))))

So I'm making my way back slowly.  But I thought I would share this journey with you to show that not everyone is perfect. We all learn from our mistakes, and perhaps one of the most important lessons and hardest ones to learn is self love and forgiveness.  I hope in some way this may ease your next round of being sick as an empath or highly sensitive.

Love and Blessings to you all,

Jasmeine Moonsong

I Have a Dream Spell

I Have a Dream Spell

Today marks the national celebration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King. It's a time to remember how long and difficult the journey toward equality, freedom, and the dignity of all races and people has been. It's a time to honor the power of nonviolence, the ultimate practice of magic. Contemplate where you can bring more light into your life, look at where you could uplift your attitudes, behavior, thoughts, and beliefs.

Walk a simple spiral, circling in. With each step, identify what to let go of, or overcome, in order to uphold equality, freedom, and dignity for all. In the center, light a candle and chant:

Candle light, burning bright
Illuminate what is right,
Brighten darkness, lighten life,
Overcome eternal strife.

Spiral out. Know that magic changes energy, even internalized racism. Use this spell regularly to change old beliefs, and become free to pursue your dreams.

Full Wolf Moon

Merry Meet,

Full Wolf Moon Blessings to you all. :))) Tonight we celebrate the Wolf Moon.  Wolf moon is the name that the Native Americans gave to the full moon in January.  Part of the reason the Native Americans chose this name was due to the howling wolves outside their villages this time of year.  This moon is also known as the Old Moon, or Moon after Yule Moon.

Colors: Black and white, silver
Gemstones: Hematite
Trees: Birch, Hazel
Gods: Inanna, Freyja
Herbs: Thistle, nuts and seeds, marjoram
Element: Air

The full moon tonight is falling on a Monday and the moon is in Cancer entering Leo tonight at 11:35 pm.  Mondays are ruled by the Moon and are days of peace, sleep, healing, compassion, friends, psychic awareness, purification and fertility.  The full moon is a time of great power. The moon being in Cancer stimulates emotional rapport between people, pinpoints needs, supports growth and nurturance and tends to domestic concerns. This is a good time to work on magic related to protection, both physical and spiritual. Use this time to develop your inner self, and advance spiritually, becoming closer to the higher aspects of your deities.

Enjoy the magick of the full moon! Spring is on it's way! :)

Love and Blessings to you all,

Jasmeine Moonsong

The Wolf Pack Creed - in celebration of the Full Wolf Moon

I hope you enjoy :)))))

Candle Magick

Merry Meet,

One of the items we work with as witches very frequently is candles.  For centuries we have used candles in magick and rituals.  Not only are they beautiful to look at but they bring meaning to your ritual and help you to invoke the divine.  Candles are magickal because they help you to focus your energy and clarify your heart’s desire.

When working with candles you always want to work with a “virgin” candle.  One that has never been used before in any way.  The reason for this is so vibrations from the candle being used don’t interrupt the magick you are trying to work. Make sure you never use a candle again after you use it for a ritual or to work magick. For this reason you will most likely want to work with votive candles most frequently.

You want to dress a candle before you use it to give it your special energy and help you to make a psychic link with it.  To dress a candle annoint it with oil beginning at the top of the candle and working down the candle until you get to the middle of the candle using a downward motion.  Then annoint the candle from the bottom working your way up to the middle of the candle.

You should time your candle-burning to correspond to the cycles of the moon. When bringing something into your life burn your candle during the waxing moon.  If you wish to rid yourself of something burn the candle during the waning moon.

If you have knowledge of runes you can carve them into your candles to intensify the magick.  Meditate before lighting the candle to help clear your mind and focus on your desire.  When you light the flame state your intention and visualize having what you desire.  Continue chanting your intention/desire as the candle burns, unti you feel confident in your intention. Then allow the candle to burn out on it’s own. Once the candle has burned out you could also place a piece of the cooled wax under your pillow and repeat your intention before you go to sleep every night for a week after you burn the candle.

Black Candles -  Use caution when using black candles and only use them when a reputable spell calls for you to use them. Black candles are governed by the planet Saturn. Saturn is known as the teacher and is used for revenge when you have been wronged.  So we must remember the Wiccan Rede and use this candle with extreme caution.  Use this color candle for spells and ritauls involving discord, protection from retribution, power, will power, strength, reversing, uncrossing, binding, negative forces, protection, releasing, repelling dark magick, and banishing negative thoughts.  Again though be careful not to cause harm when working with black candles or at any time.

White Candles - White candles are the color of serenity and lunar energy.  They are great for clearing things.  Use for spells and rituals involving purity, spirituality, sincerity, truth, nature, and wholeness.  This color is best for cleaning and purifying. This color may be substituded for any color candle.

Silver Candles -  Silver candles help to attract the influence of the Mother Goddess.  Use this color candle for spells and ritals involving the removal of negative powers, victory, stability, meditation and the development of psychic development.

Gold Candles - Gold candles are used for understanding and attracting the powers of cosmic influences.  Gold candles are best used in rituals or spellwork to bring money, fortune, divination, fast luck, and higher influences.

Pink Candles -  Pink is ruled by the planet Venus.  It is a great candle to use for spells and rituals involving love, romance, spiritual awakening, healing of the spirit, and affection.

Red Candles -  Mars rules the color red.  Red candles are good to use in spells and rituals involving physical power, will power, strength, and physical sex.

Magenta Candles - Magenta candles have a very high vibration level so use this color candle with other candles.  This color tends to work fast so use in spells and rituals where you want qick changes, spiritual healing and exorcism.

Orange Candles - Orange candles are used for communication.  Orange is ruled by Mercury.  Use this color candle for spells and rituals involving encouragement, adaptation, stimulation, attraction, sudden changes, control, power to draw good things and to change luck.  It is also a great candle to use when you wish to open your telepathic senses to another person.

Yellow Candles - Yellow candles represent the sun.  Use this color in spells and rituals involving intellect, imagination, power of the mind, creativity, confidence, gentle persuasion, action, attraction, concentration, inspiration, sudden changes and happiness.

Green Candles -  Green candles are governed by Venus.  Green is a great color to use for treasures, antiques, worldly possessions.  It is best to pair with an orange candle to help remove obstacles to yor treasure.  Green candles are also used for healing physical problems and feminine issues.

Indigo Candles
Indigo or Turquoise candles are used in rituals and spells that require deep meditation ro demand the energy of Saturn.  They can also be used to neutralize another’s magick, stop gossip, lies or undesirable competition and balance karma.

Blue Candles - Blue candles are used for rituals and spells involving peace and harmony, protection, healing, reuniting friendships, blessings for a new home, neutralizing acts of magick, and calming the nerves and atmostphere of an area.

Purple Candles -  Purple is ruled by Jupiter.  Use this color candle for spells involving idealism, higher psychic ability, wisdom, progress, protection, honors, spirit contact, and driving away evil and bad luck.  This is a power color and will work well with other candles.

Brown Candles - Brown candles are used for spells and rituals involving concentration, balance, ESP, intuition, study, justice, and seperation.  It is a great color for grounding and stabilizing.

Eagle Behind My House

Merry Meet :))

I'm sitting here working on the Daily Affirmations and Quotes when I gazed up at the frost covered field behind my house to admire the rising sun and all but dropped my coffee.  An eagle swooped down across the field.  I watched for a few moments to make sure it was indeed what I saw.  A few minutes later it rose up out of the high grass in the back of the field and circled around the field a couple times before it flew off.  I have seen an eagle only one other time in my life, and never near my home. It was amazing to see, it's black body and white head just glistened in the early morning sun as it spread it's wings wide to swoop down over the field.  This was a very good size eagle.  I only wish I had a better camera to capture these types of things.  My iphone is good but not that good lol.  It won't take the distance shots that well.

American Indians see the eagle as a sacred messenger that carries prayers to the Creator and returns with gifts and visions.  We use eagles feathers to connect to this majestic and powerful spirit guide as we know the eagle feather holds cleansing and healing powers.  The eagle is seen by many cultures as a symbol of courage, vision, strength and endurance.   The Eagle represents a state of grace that is reached through intense inner work and challenges to help one identify their true self and reclaim their personal power.

Eagles appear to inspire you to reach higher and become more then you think you are capable of.  They want you to be courageous and stretch your limits.  The Eagle teaches us to see clearly.  It helps to give us patience to wait for those perfect moments.  The Eagle teaches us to live in perfect balance with the Great Spirits and the Earth.    The Eagle reminds you to be free and follow your heart.

Eagle feathers are considered sacred all over the world and used to help assist in healing.  The feathers of the Eagle are symbols of power, healing and wisdom.

Angels, Archangels, and Ascended Masters

Merry Meet,

Good Morning :))) It's the first day of the Pagan Blog Project and our letter for today is "a".  I knew right away when I saw this what I wanted to write about: Angels, Archangels, and Ascended Masters.

In the community I often see a lot of Wiccans or Witches asking if it's ok to be a Christian witch.  I also see  a lot of responses saying no..... While I agree that some of the traditional christian religions may not agree with you practicing witchcraft or as a wiccan, I don't think there is an issue with one being a witch or Wiccan and working with Angels, Archangels, and Ascended Masters.  From what I've seen the majority of the time, those asking if it's ok are wanting to do that and it makes sense for what we believe.

I have been taught to explore all religions, and look at each one for similarities and to be open minded to all of them as a witch.  When you do that you will notice many of the prominant people in each religion are in multiple religions they just may go by different names.  But that is an entire blog entry in and of itself.  What I want to get across today is that as a witch or Wiccan I believe it is more than ok to work with the Angels.  Let's face it, as witches a lot of us are lightworkers.  We are here to heal and help others.  So if one feels the call to work with the Angels I believe it makes perfect sense.

Ascended Masters are enlightened beings who are basically walking angels.  They have come to Earth and served some time among us assisting us as healers teachers and prophets. They are now members of the spirit world again and help us from the other side. Some examples of Ascended Masters are Jesus, St. Teresa, Quan Yin, Buddha, Mary Magdelane and there are many more who are known through all different religions.  The Archangels are extremely powerful angels who are here to help us and they help to oversee the guardian angels.  Some of the Archangels are Archangel Michael, Archangel Gabriel, and Archangel Uriel.

As witches we learn to work with spirits, spirits of the Gods and Goddesses, spirit guides, animal spirits, spirits of the elements. Does it not make perfect sense that we would work with Angels, Archangels, and Ascended Masters as well?  Many of us are capable of "walking between realms" and are blessed to be able to see and hear clearer then others.  So not only does it make it easier for us to work with them, but it is easier for us to pass along their messages as well.

This was one of the things that I struggled with when first formally following my path.  I wasn't sure if it was "ok" to still work with angels?  The more I walk this path the more I realize how perfectly it all fits together.  It really matters not what religion you are, it matters that you are spiritual.  That you do believe in a higher power and recognize there are spirits about to help us.  That you love yourself and really take the time to listen and connect to the energies around you.  If you wish to call upon the Angels, call upon them.  When you walk your path do what feels right for you.  Write your own Book of Shadows and put in it what is most comfortable and resonates for you.  There is no right or wrong path in Wicca or when you are a witch, however you must walk the one that is the truest for you.

The world is a beautiful place.  Take the time to look around you.  If you wish to work with the angels you just need to ask.  I am routinely left signs from them, pennies and feathers to let me know when I have done right, or when I need that added reinforcement that I am not alone.  You can feel their presence.  You will have a light tingly feeling when they are about.

I have recommended that several of my Empath students work with the Angels.  Because of our sensitivity in nature it always seems to help and is a perfect match.  A lot of them have grown to love it.  One of the questions I get asked the most is how to start working with them.  It is as simple as asking for their help.  One of the tools I used though, that opened the doors for communication for me were the angel oracle decks.  I work with several angel oracle decks on a daily basis and they have made communication easier for me.  In case you wish to try it here are the decks that I use:

Messages from Your Angels Oracle Cards - Doreen Virtue
Healing with the Angels - Doreen Virtue
Archangel Oracle Cards - Doreen Virtue
Ascended Master Oracle Cards - Doreen Virtue

They are all by Doreen Virtue.  I find her decks very uplifting and soothing to work with.  She's also written many books on the angels that if you wish to explore further I would recommend reading as well.  She's very truthful and down to earth in her writing and a very easy read.

So now it's time to hear from you! :))) Do you work with the angels, Archangels, or Ascended Masters currently?  If not do you think you might give it a try? I would love to hear from you. :)))

Love and Blessings to you all,

Jasmeine Moonsong

The Magickal Rowan Tree

"Rowan is a tree of power; Causing life and magick to flower."

Planet: The Sun, Mercury
Element: Fire
Symbolism: Protection and Inspiration
Stone: Tourmaline
Birds: Duck, Quail
Color: Green
Deity: Brigantia, Brigid, Virgin Mary, Thor
Sabbat: Imbolc, Candlemas
Folk Names: Delight of the Eye, Mountain Ash, Quickbane, Ran Tree, Roden-Quicken, Roden-Quicken-Royan, Roynetree, Sorb Apple, Thor's Helper,  Whitty, Wicken-Tree, Wiggin, Wiggy, Wiky, Wild Ash, Witchbane, Witchen, Witchwood

The Rowan tree is considered one of the most sacred trees of the Witches and Wiccans.  It is also a favorite tree of the Druids.  Rowan trees are also known as European Ash trees, however they are actually a member of the rose family.  These trees are native to Northeastern North America and Northern Europe.  It's a smaller dense tree that grows to approximately 50 feet.  It thrives in rougher overworked soil so a lot of times you will find these trees growing around old building sites.  Because of it's density in the past it has been used to make such things as ship masts, whip handles, spindles, spinning wheels, and other tools.  It is a wonderful tree for carving and to use as a walking stick.

The berries of the Rowan tree are indeed edible.  They are used to make jams and jellies primarily in Europe.  You will find it being used as a substitute for cranberry sauce.  It is also use to make wines.

Magickal Properties
The Rowan tree has long been known for being a magickal tree. It is used to protect against bad luck, evil and lightning. The Rowan tree is a very dense tree and has been use for many years to make walking sticks and magician's staves, as well as Druid staffs and wands.  Even today is is still one of the most sought after woods for wands and amulets. It is believed to help psychic abilities and connections.  If you look at the berries when you remove them from the stick you will notice the pentacle symbol where they were attached. They are used in many Wiccan rituals and traditions today.

In Wiccan traditions today the berries are dried and ground up to make magickal incenses that are used to invoke the Goddess, spirit guides, or elemental spirits. The leaves from the Rowan tree are used in love divinations and spells.

In meditation, Rowan is helpful with clearing the mind and opening our inspiration. The Essence of Rowan is used in vibrational medicine to assist in attuning us to nature, broadening perspectives, and making room for a deeper understanding of our place here in the universe.

Medical Usage
Rowan Berries are used as a laxative, for sore throats and inflamed tonsils. They have a high concentration of vitamin C.

Ancient Traditions
Ancient vessels carried Rowan branches to avoid storms.  People placed the branches on their steps to help their houses avoid lightning.  They were also planted on graves to prevent hauntings. Branches were stitched into childrens clothing to help protect them and ward off evil spirits.

Finnish Lore
In ancient Finnish lore the Rowan tree is part of their creation myth. It is believed that their Goddess, Rauni, came down from heaven when the earth was barren and took the form of the Rowan tree. She is known to have mated with Ukko, the Finnish God of Thunder resulting in the creation of all the plants and trees on Earth.

Norse Mythology
The word Rowan is Norse in origin and means the tree. In Norse mythology the Rowan tree is associated with the Goddess Sif. She is a Goddess associated with the Earth.  She is best known for her long golden hair and being married to the God Thor.

Celtic Traditions
The Rowan Tree is the Celtic tree of life.  The ancient Celts believe the Rowan tree to be the first woman and the Alder tree to be the first man. They also call the Rowan tree the traveler's tree because it is said to prevent the traveler from getting lost.  They also believe it to guard against evil spirits.  On Beltane it was the Celtic tradition to Rowan tree branches with string dyed from it's red berries to the tails of cows, and the halters of horses for protection. They made their sheep jump through hoops made of Rowan branches for protection.  They planted Rowan trees by their doors and windows to help prevent evil from entering their house.  The Celts associate the Rowan tree with Imbolc.

Irish Folklore
The Irish believed that the Rowan tree had the power to restore lost youth and that it was guarded by serpents and dragons.

"Whatever your connection to the Rowan, be sure to look out for the changes that will occur as a result of any communication with this tree. It should not be underestimated and its influence will bring about a quickening of your energy on many subtle levels. For this reason, it has always been used by the wise ones and revered as a powerful influence and should be treated with the greatest respect."

Rowan Berry Jelly
3lb rowan berries strigged from their stalks, 3 firm apples, peeled, cored and chopped, 6 pints water, 6 whole cloves, a few juniper berries, sugar.

Boil fruit in water with cloves and juniper berries. Tip into jelly bag or muslin cloth, and leave to drip overnight. Next day measure juice and add a pound of preserving sugar to each pint of liquid. Heat gently to dissolve sugar, then boil hard for ten minutes. Test for setting by putting a little jelly on a cold saucer, and after a few minutes push edge with finger. If it wrinkles setting point has been reached. Decant into warmed jars and seal with butter. (Do not use metal lids.) Flavour improves with maturity (about six months)

I am protected and indestructible.
Come what may, I am loved.
I accept the sweetness and abundance of Life and acknowledge my gifts.
I honor the energy of Rowan for protection against evil enchantment.
I will not hobble myself with the chains of past failures.

So mote it be.

One of THOSE Dreams

Merry Meet,

I'm still a bit bleary eyed as I write this.  Why I felt this was significant to my blog... not so much sure if it's me who does, but I feel like I need to write it.  So I had one of "those" dreams last night.  You know the ones.  They're super detailed, lotsa color, and you remember a lotta tiny details when you wake up which clues me in that it's suppose to mean something.  So here's what happened in the dream.. perhaps it will make sense to someone out there as I've had you all be able to tell me what in the world they meant before when I was confused.  Course the last time I dreamt of that huge storm my town was actually hit by a hurricane a couple weeks later... given that, I have absolutely no intentions of stepping on a train anytime soon. :P

It was a huge train and it wound it's way through the mountains making several stops.  For the majority of the people on it, it was a daily train ride.  However, it was my first ride on this train and given the amount of people on it, I was pretty uncomfortable.  The seats reminded me of those seats on the school bus when you were little.  Hard and cold, and because of the amount of people, it was luck of the draw who was going to sit next to you.  I found that the person sitting next to me kept changing along the route.  The majority of them did not speak English, well, at least on the train.  Something else that was curious is a lot, and I mean a lot of the population on the train were Chinese.  Nothing against them, just an interesting fact, may help determine where in the world I was?  I don't recognize any of it.

I watched this young couple in front of me all giddy laughing with each other and snuggling and totally oblivious to the world around them.  They were cute to watch and had me smiling.  They couldn't have been much more then 20.  Here's where it really starts to get weird....

We went through this "camp" of sorts? There were tons of people who were living in these tents.... like a tent city.  I remember not liking the energy as we pulled up because I felt like we were not wanted there.  Only one person got on at this stop and took a seat about five or six seats behind me.  It felt like the woman's eyes were just burning into the back of my head.   A few minutes later the train conductor looked into his mirror, (at this point the train looked more like a bus) and I could see fear in his eyes.  I watched his eyes wondering what was wrong.  Then an announcement came over the speaker on the train.

"Ladies and Gentleman, there is a bomb on the train.  We would like everyone to stay calm while we attempt to diffuse it."  Panic set in with me and my initial instinct was to run out of the train.  But what looked like a short run a couple minutes ago when it looked like a but now looked impossibly long as it looked like a long train again. Two arms, that had to be arms of the angels, gently moved me back into my seat and told me to be calm as it was the only way I was going to get off of this train was to master my emotions."

A woman a few seats in front of me stood up... I knew she was the one to diffuse the bomb as she had this badge on her jacket.  I could see the nervousness and fear in her eyes. Definitely her first time doing this.  Her hands were trembling as she walked by me.  She walked to the woman who had gotten on the stop before from the "tent camp" and lifted her up out of the seat.  She asked her to leave the train and diffuse the bomb.  The woman spit in her face and did something to her coat.  I could now hear a distinct ticking.

What happened next was a cross between time going to fast and time going too slow, best way I can describe it.  The guard shot the woman with the bomb in the chest and she fell to a crumpled heap.  There was this man a couple seats back that was really tall.. I couldn't make much else out who assisted the guard and they diffused the bomb.  At the next stop they pulled the woman off the train.  It wasn't my stop but I got off of the train anyway and proceeded to walk the rest of the way.

I work with a Dream Interpretation book called The Illustrated Dream Dictionary, by Pamela Ball.  For those of you interested in Dream Interpretation I highly recommend it.  It said the following about the train...

 - A railroad in a dream signifies the way we wish to go in life.  We can take a way forward and can make informed choices.  A single track suggests that there is only one way to go, whereas a multiple track suggests many more opportunities.
 - Psychologically, a railroad suggests the idea of keeping one goal (which may be a group one) and being single-minded about it.  One early symbolism of the railroad was the facility of being able to ignore obstacles, to go round, through, or even over anything that stood in the way.
- Spiritually, the railroad suggests a chosen direction that is usually fairly straightforward.

 - A train will often highlight the dreamer's attitude to social behavior and relationships with other people.  It will also clarify his attitude to himself.  A steam train would suggest that we feel ourselves to be outdated and obsolete, whereas an up-to-date electric turbo might suggest speed and efficiency.  Catching the train shows we have successfully been able to have outside circumstances cooperate with us in achieving a particular goal.

 - Bombs appearing in a dream usually indicate some form of explosive situation with which we need to deal.  Exploding a bomb indicates the need for positive action, while defusing a bomb suggests taking care not to make a situation worse.
 - Psychologically, we need to be aware that our own emotions are likely to get the better of us.
 - A bomb exploding is usually an unexpected event.  Dreaming of one would suggest a fear of sudden death.

Rather crazy dream.  I have some ideas of what it all means, but I know it's definitely one of those dreams that will be in my head for a bit until I sort it out.  :)))) I had the urge to share, so there it is.  Perhaps it will mean something to one of you as well.

The Pagan Blog Project

Merry Meet everyone :)))

A fellow sister of the Mists and friend of mine, Rowan Pendragon from One Witch's Way is running The Pagan Blog Project.  I think it's a wonderful idea, and will be participating in it.  I know some of you who read my blog also blog so I thought I would pass it along to you as well.

So what is it??

Each week during 2012 on Friday all of us that are part of the Pagan Blog Project will write a post relating to Paganism, witchcraft, magick, etc. Each week there will be a specific prompt to help you write your blog post for that Friday focusing on one letter of the alphabet.  For example, week one is the letter "a" so you will see a blog post from me this Friday that has something to do with a topic that starts with the letter "a". :)))) There are 26 letters in the alphabet and 52 weeks in the year, so we will do each letter of the alphabet for two weeks.

What if I don't blog and I just want to do this on my own?

This is still a great idea to help you with journaling even if you don't have a blog. Keeping a journal is a wonderful way to work with those creative energies.  So even if you don't want to do the challenge formally, I encourage you to do it on your own at home in a special journal.

Sounds great! I'm gonna join you! :))))) What next?

Check out all the information and sign up here:  The Pagan Blog Project

I look forward to blogging with you in 2012!

Love and Blessings,
