Traditional Witch's Besom
Merry Meet :)))) Some of you will recognize the Witch's Besom as a witch's broom. :))) I love the way the look standing in a corner of the house. However they also have a practical use, and can be used in magick and ritual. Typically they are used in cleansing. The following is how to make a traditional Witch's Besom. Please note, whenever possible see if you can find the natural materials on the ground rather then removing them. If you do need to remove them from a tree, always ask the tree's permission. ;)
What You Need
- Approximately 4 feet of a very sturdy branch from an oak or ash tree for the handle
- Lots of thin birch branches to serve as the bristles of the Besom.
- Long lengths of willow branches (green is better in this case) or a heavy binding cord to bind it all together. You can also use floral wire, and then wrap grape vines over it.
- Bucket of warm water
Find a work space that you can easily layout all the materials.
Set the handle on the table and line up all the branches so that they start about 4 inches from the bottom of the oak handle. Trim them to make sure that they are all the same length.
Use the willow branches or cord to secure the branches to the besom.
Set the broom someplace that it can dry until it's ready to use. :)))
Love and Blessings,
