Make Your Own Henna Ink

Merry Meet :))

Henna Ink can be a fun way to give both yourself and the little ones temporary tattoos. I have seen some done that are just gorgeous! :))))) It has a long history of use in the Mediterranean. Henna itself is a flowering plant that typically grows in Africa and South Asia, and Australia. Did you know that the Henna plant can be used as an antiseptic, and to help with fevers and skin issues as well? :)))

Making your own Henna ink is actually really easy to do.

What You Need
- Henna Powder (be sure it is good quality, as if it's not it can cause skin irritation)
- Lemon juice
- Honey
- Lavender or Tea Tree essential oil
- wooden bowl (it can react with metal so be sure to use wooden bowls and spoons)
- Latex gloves. (it can stain so wear these to protect your hands.)

Take about 3 and a half ounces of the henna powder and sift it to make sure that it is free of any clumps.

Add a couple tablespoons of honey to the powder.

Start adding lemon juice and keep stirring it until it reaches a pretty thick consistancy.

Leave the bowl somewhere warm to set.

After a couple hours, little brown puddles should start to form on the top of the mixture. It can take up to 12 hours for this to happen.

At this point you can add a bit of essential oil. Add several drops to help smooth out the mixture.

You want to wait a day or two after the final mix to let the dye peak before using it.

You can now apply it. :)))) When you first apply it, it will appear orange, but will darken over the next day or two. Try to keep it out of water for several hours when you first apply it. When you want to remove it you can take it off with baby lotion.
