The Nazca Lines

The Nazca Lines

Merry Meet. :)) One of the most famous geoglyphs in the world is the Nazca Lines in Peru. Geoglyphs are forms of art on the ground, generally more then 4 meters. They are typically made by using elements of the earth. Most of them are visible mainly from the air. The Nasca Lines were created by turning sun-baked stones over. It is believed that they were created between 500 B.C. and A.D. 500. There are 300 different geoglyphs that make up the Nasca lines. You will find figures of animals, birds, human-like forms, shapes and straight lines. Almost all of them are only visible from the air due to their large size. However some of them can be seen fairly well from large hills in the area.

The Nasca lines extend for over 50 miles between the towns of Nazca and Palpa in Southern Peru. Peru has a very dry and stable climate, so these ancient lines have been very well preserved. Toribio Mejia Exesspe, disocver them in 1927 when he was hiking the ancient foothills in the area.

Part of the mystery on these geoglyphs is that they were created long before human flight was even possible. So how in the world did they get there? Was it aliens? Ancient civilizations that were more advanced then us? What purpose did they serve?

The following is a short video on youtube that does a nice job showing them:
