Blessings for Yule and the Winter Solstice!

Yule Blessings to you and yours!

For many around the world, tonight is the night we will celebrate the Winter Solstice together. It's finally here! Today is the final day that the nights will be longer than the days, and our blessed sun god is returning to us with increasing light as we go forward. I absolutely love how beautiful winter is, but I must confess I miss the long hours I spend in the sunshine and in the woods during the warm months. With his return, tonight is also a night of birth and renewal, hopes and promises for a brighter path moving forward and a blessed new year to come.

In the spirit of the season, it's also a time to give back. I realize that things are tight money wise for many of us, and we must realize that the best gifts aren't bought, but those that come from the heart. Consider sending gifts of energy and healing to those that you love. If you are new, or need a refresher on how to do this, I have a great article here to help you: Create a Gift Of Love and Light

You can also give a gift of time. There are many organizations that need help not only this time of year but all year long. I encourage you to check your local papers and anywhere else you can think of to see how you can help. I know on Facebook there are tons of campaigns to help families in our local area in need. This is the first year that I've finally seen Facebook becoming useful in this way. I believe a good part of it is them allowing us to prioritize what posts we see. I have seen so many campaigns go by to help local families and businesses in need. They aren't just looking for money they are looking for donations of time and goods as well. If you are on Facebook type in the town and state that you live in and see what comes up for groups and pages. You may be surprised at the resources available to you for news and events going on. See if there's some way that you can help out this season.

You also will want to check your papers and local listings for celebrations in your area. This is the one holiday that we celebrate that you are quite likely to find celebrations for it out in the public. Several years ago I found that our town does an annual bonfire on the Winter Solstice. Along with the bonfire they sing carols and have provide hot cocoa. This is a great way for my children to get an introduction to being Wiccan and they absolutely adore it. In my area there tends to be a lot of bonfire celebrations and winter moonlit walks. It's a great way to possibly meet others who share the same interests as you. If the weather cooperates, the winter moonlight walks can be absolutely magickal. If you get the opportunity to go on one I can't recommend it enough.

Other ideas to celebrate Yule include making your yule log. You could go out on a walk and collect evergreen branches to make into wreaths for your home. Bake some goodies like cookies or stews and make your house smell amazing. Grab a book and curl up in the corner to spend some relaxing time. It's a time for celebrating the season and the returning of the sun.

Working With Your Spirit Animal

One of the most popular readings that I have is the Spirit Animal reading.  Everyone has Spirit Guides that work with them and I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t have Spirit Animals as well.  I usually find that each person has several.  It may be a furbaby on the other side, a spirit animal that’s been with us since birth, or one that is working with us to help us with something specific on our path.  

Every spirit animal that is working with you brings you energy.  The Wolf helps us with loyalty, trust and feeling safe and secure.  The Hawk helps to bring us wisdom and the ability to see the big picture as well as the tiny details.  The Fox helps us to see different options for every situation and to think outside of the box.  There are so many amazing spirit animals out there.

When you know who your Spirit Animal is you can work with them to draw their energy to you.  Well what does that mean? Let’s take for instance the wolf.  The White Wolf is one of my main spirit animals.  When I feel like I’m in a situation where I would like to feel more secure I visualize the white wolf by my side.  That action of visualizing the white wolf by my side summons the energy of that guide and allows me to tap into the energy of that spirit animal.  Easy right? That is the simplest way to draw their energy to you. 

Some spirit animals are easier to spend time with.  For instance you may find that if you have a dog, cat or another animal that is accessible, spending time with that animal will also increase the energy that they bring you.  This isn’t always possible.  It would be pretty hard to spend time with a wolf.  Although I did find the most amazing wolf sanctuary here in Massachusetts thanks to a fellow Daily Magick member.  It was the most incredible experience to spend a couple of hours a stone’s throw from several wolves.  In the case that you can’t spend time with them you may want to hang pictures of them or keep pictures of them on you.  Basically anything that you can think of to help you connect with that spirit animal.

The final thing you want to do is watch for them on your path as they will often bring you messages.  Sometimes you will get a spirit animal that is really good at this.  I also work with the red-tailed hawk and I will see her often on my path.  She often shows up at times that I need reassurance with decisions.  It’s pretty amazing.  However they don’t have to come to you in person.  Watch for them in pictures, magazines, on signs, you never know how they will find their way to you.  When you find them make sure that you pay attention to what’s currently going on in your life and your immediate surroundings as you will find that this helps you to understand the message that they are trying to bring you.

The Transformative Energy of a Memory

If I tell you to spend some time relaxing somewhere, do you have a place that immediately comes to mind? I know one of my favorite places to go is the ocean. One of these days I would love to live closer to it. I'm lucky enough to be just over an hour from it now. Think about the places that you find the most relaxing. It can be a travel destination, a favorite place in your home, a place that you enjoy going for a walk, even a place from your past.

Wait... a place from your past? For example, I remember when I was little, there was a section of bushes on the side of my yard that was my own personal fort. I was just little enough to fit into the spaces and while I'm sure they knew where I was, I thought I couldn't be found there. I can still smell the pine needles on the ground of my fort and see the view of my yard from my secret hiding place as I spent so much time there. It was a space that I made special.

Choose a place that you can call to memory whenever you wish easily. You may find that it's someplace that you honestly have only been once or experienced once. For instance, I drove my children up to Maine for a weekend right before I got divorced. It was the first time I had taken them on a weekend away on my own. It happened to be on the weekend of a Full Super Moon and I remember standing with them on the beach in the bit of snow that had gathered in the sand looking at the amazing light that Moon was casting over the ocean. It truly was magickal and I knew that night my life was going to change. You have those moments in life that just stay incredibly strong in your mind.

Think of at least one example of a memory of a place, more if you can. Choose one or two and make sure that you can recall them in vivid detail. Make a note on your phone or a note you can carry on you about those memories. Then whenever you feel stressed or worried you can call upon those memories and moments in your life. The energy will remain vivid and will be powerful to push out any unwanted energy you may be experiencing at the time. Just spend a moment with the memory visualizing it in as much detail as you can. When you are ready, take a deep breath of all the wonderful energy and exhale any residual stress or worries. The extra visualization will help move that unwanted energy.

The Emotional Playground for Empaths

Many of you know that one of my huge passions in life is working with empaths.  I am blessed to work with so many of you and I couldn't imagine my life without all of you.  I also know that I have a lot of you that are new,  so I wanted to make sure that you had the resources that you need.

In the past I have gone into grounding and shielding, two skills that are critical for empaths. The next step is learning to recognize your own emotions. I know, it sounds like the most simple thing in the world, but you would be amazed how many emotions you can carry as an empath that aren’t even yours. It really is like an emotional playground out there. If you’re not careful you can wind up with a myriad of emotions that have nothing to do with you.

So let’s start sorting it out. What’s mine? What’s yours? When you feel intense emotions, we need to start sorting them out. If you woke up in a good mood, drove to work, and when you got out of your car in the parking lot you felt angry, is it you? Or could it be you drove past thirty cars on the way there, with people stuck at lights, and late to work and were experiencing mild cases of road rage. Take a deep breath. Think about why it is you feel angry right at that moment. If you cannot come up with a reason, chances are, it’s not yours. So give it back! Release the negative emotion back into the universe. Take a huge deep breath and say, “This is not my emotion, I release it.” Take another one and say, “I am happy and calm.” It can also be helpful to have a one word chant. I use the word “calm.” I will repeat it quietly to myself until I feel back to normal. If you have time to ground, by all means, ground. That is the best method to release the energy that you have picked up. However, many times, just realizing that it’s not yours, and allowing it to go away will do the trick.

Once you start getting in tune with your own emotions, you will be surprised at how many things can and will affect you if you let them. Just being aware of this can begin to make a huge difference in your like immediately. Use the simple breathing exercise above as often as you need to. With time, regular grounding, shielding and just plain old being aware your life will start to change for the better immediately.

The process of using herbs based on astrology is an ancient system.  It has been proven that many physical ailments correspond to our astrological signs and I used some of that information to help put together this list.  This list is also a collection of herbs that I have found in my travels in a variety of books and articles that reference working well with their corresponding astrological signs.  While I would love to be I am not familiar with all of the herbs listed, so before using any of them please be sure to research the herb and become familiar with it and how it is best used.  Just because something is classified as an herb does not mean it's safe.  If you are pregnant, nursing, or trying to become pregnant or have any chronic illnesses please check with a doctor before using any herbs.

The Changing Energy That Surrounds You

The energy is strong and it's been definitely bringing some challenges into your life and challenging decisions. We've been working so hard to let go of things that are no longer in our best influence in our lives.

This energy that surrounds us right now reminds me of that of the Chariot card in the tarot. With hard work and dedication you will find victory. Keep working with this energy. For as difficult as things have been, many of you are going to find that the Universe has been working really hard to bring some important shifts into your life. Some of you have started writing in to me over the last couple of days to let me know that those rewards have been coming your way. I am loving the happiness! :) I love learning about your success on your path so always send me letters! I reply to as many as I can and I always read them all. They make me incredibly happy to know things are going well for you.

If the rewards haven't quite come your way yet, know that the shifting energy is still around you and if you keep working with it there are definitely things coming up on your path that are going to help ensure that you are on the best path meant for you.

Fifteen Years

Fifteen Years

Fifteen years ago I was working for a Blue Chip company as one of their top financial analysts. I had worked incredibly hard to get this position that you had to pass a series of tests and obtain at least a Bachelor's degree to obtain.

Fifteen Years ago I was in the hospital thinking I had food poisoning when I found out the wonderful news that I was going to be a Mom for the first time. I was over the Moon. My daily commute to the job I had was an hour and a half, toss in the hours that I was working and I was going to miss so much time with that beautiful little girl that I had. I had an agreement with them to work part time after she was born. I was in a very specialized position though and in an attempt to make me stay in that position they tried to make me remain full time. I wound up leaving my job and vowing that I would find something after my daughter turned one.

That first year went by in a whirlwind for me. I loved the extra time I had with my little girl and I honestly didn't want to go back. I wanted to be that stay at home Mom. However the income was needed to support our family. I taught myself how to work from home. I spent hours teaching myself web design and looking for ways to make money from home. I learned what MLM marketing was and how to stay away from it. I had a website that helped to teach others how to make money from home. I also had a website for coupons. The income on both websites, while not amazing was 100% dependent upon ads that I had running on my websites. While I wasn't making a ton of money I made enough to justify staying home and raising my little ones which was my ultimate goal.

Fast forward about six years to 2009 and Google made a major change change to their search engine and both of my websites just fell of the map completely. I went from having an income to no income literally overnight. I was devastated. There was only one option and that was to rebuild or go back to work.

At that time I had just signed up for a formal Wiccan education and things were clicking in place for me rapidly. I was overwhelmed with tons of information that I was taking in and beyond excited about it. I had learned I was an empath about two years ago at that point and I was teaching empaths at an online Wiccan School called the Sacred Mists. I decided that I was going to take that jump and do what I love and decided to start a blog about my experiences in that school and the formal studies that I was taking.

Over time that blog evolved completely and while I still shared my experiences it was a vehicle to teach others as well. I was making an income, it wasn't significant but you making anything online can be unbelievably difficult so I was content. I knew I needed to do something to boost the income because my income from ads just wasn't doing it and honestly I hated the ads and that's when Moonsong Daily Magick was born. Moonsong Daily Magick was the vehicle that allowed me to teach more than what I was doing on my blog but to allow me to do what I loved Full Time. I jumped into it and I have been loving working with all of you for almost seven years now. It's crazy how fast time flies.

Four years ago now? I think it's four now this coming Spring I got a divorce. It was a terrifying time for me as I wanted to stay with my children and keep my business and the house that my children grew up in. Not ambitious at all right? The night I found out that I was getting a divorce Daily Magick subscriptions went through the roof. To this day I have no idea what happened. I don't know if someone did some sort of referral to me? It was astounding. It literally started right after I found out. I had about a minute to panic because I knew I didn't have the income to support this house even with child support and then my phone kept pinging. It did it all night and all through the next day. This amazing miracle enabled me to have just enough money to barely get by maintaining it all.

I wanted to do tarot as I loved it but honestly I was terrified. I needed the money though and it was the most logical next step and I'm so happy that I took it. It made it so that I could get my little ones some extra things and so that we had a more comfortable lifestyle.

Today I support a family of four with the income from Daily Magick and the Tarot Readings that I do. Thank you so much to all of you for all that you do. You have no idea how far the money for a reading can go to make us more comfortable and help me to provide for our little family. I love all of you for it as it allows me to do what I love. I honestly can't imagine ever working without the tarot or being a Wiccan. It's who I am, it's what I love.

The little girl that was writing letter's to Salem's witch Laurie Cabot, couldn't wait to get home and watch Sylvia Brown and John Edwards and couldn't get enough paranormal books finally figured out what I was meant to be doing. I just needed some gentle shoves from the universe along the way. I'm also in an amazing relationship with someone who helps me with absolutely everything. He runs the house for me, he fixes everything, he helps me with the kids and he is a huge help with the business. If anything is wrong I run straight to him. I honestly don't know what I would do without him with me.

Linked In notified me that I hit my 15 year anniversary and I couldn't believe it. It's so amazing how series of events in life can really alter your path. I'm so happy mine went the way it did.

Fall Cauldron

Fall Cauldron

I happened upon this old cauldron for my birthday five years ago now. If you've not seen the story of it already, you can read it here: http://wiccanmoonsong.blogspot.com/2012/09/old-cauldron.html

This cauldron is from around 1860. I had been looking for awhile for the perfect one and I remember being incredibly excited when I found this one at an old antique shop near where my Great Grandfather's old farm use to be. When I got it home I wanted to find the perfect place for it. I wanted it in my kitchen but wasn't sure where to put it.

The day after I found the cauldron there was a huge storm and it blew down tons of branches. My son, who was five at the time, brought in one of those branches as a present for me. I first told him to take it back outside, but the beautiful leaves on it caught my eye. I asked him to help me and we worked together to snip the smallest branches with the prettiest leaves on them and put them in the cauldron.

It turned into a holiday cauldron. For Mabon we go for walks in the woods to collect small pinecones and other little trinkets that we find on the ground like acorns to go with the leaves in it. What's better than having something that looks nice? Something that smells nice too! So we often add dried apple slices drizzled with cinnamon, and sprinkled some cinnamon essential oil on top of it.

The pot basically became an offering pot that also is a beautiful decoration. During Yule you can add pine cones, pine branches that you find on the ground and some pine essential oil to give you that Yule tide smell. I plan to do it up each season with appropriate things from nature inside it, that will match where we are on the wheel of the year, and remind myself and my children of the beautiful gifts that nature provides us with each and every day. This way I'm involving them in the practice as well. The cauldron is just an amazing piece to put it in. You may be able to find one, or another suitable pot by rooting around in thrift shops or antique shops. You'd be amazed what you can find.

November Blessings! What's Happening This Month?

Ready for another exciting month? Here in New England the leaves are almost all completely off the trees now and the nights have been pretty cold as we move into the time of the year where we have limited sunlight. Don't forget that we have Daylight Savings Time this weekend here in most parts of the United States. I know efforts are being made in a lot of places to not use it anymore and I'm truly hoping that they do away with it here in New England as well. Over the next month we can start getting dark as early as 4:30 where in the Summer it can stay light out until almost 9:00. The one thing I love about it is all the beautiful lights up for the season. It seems as if more and more people are keeping pretty lights up outside during the darker months of the year and it is really beautiful to see.

Let's take a look at what's going on this month.

November 5 - 6 Taurids Meteor Shower - The Taurids is a long-running minor meteor shower producing only about 5-10 meteors per hour. It peaks this year during this time.

November 6 - Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation. The planet Mercury reaches greatest eastern elongation of 23.3 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Mercury since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the evening sky. Look for the planet low in the western sky just after sunset.

November 7 - New Moon - It's our first New Moon of our Witch's New Year. We definitely have some exciting energy coming our way.

November 11 - Veteran's Day

November 17 - 18 - Leonids Meteor Shower. The Leonids is an average shower, producing up to 15 meteors per hour at its peak. This shower is unique in that it has a cyclonic peak about every 33 years where hundreds of meteors per hour can be seen.

November 22 - Thanksgiving (United States)

November 23 - Full Mourning Moon - A day to release what isn't in your best interest and bring something new into your life. You will also find some powerful intuitive energy around you with this Moon.

I pulled the Hanged Man for November. He can often come to us in a time of suspended action. You may find that November while busy is a time that you may not necessarily make a lot of movement forward on your path. Don't mistake this for being an unimportant time though. Use this time to reflect upon your life and live in the moment. Watch for the opportunities that surround you during this month and take action on the ones that are calling you.

Sometimes when taking control of our life it's important to let go. You may have some things that are already in the works and they need time to come to fruition. It may indicate that there's energy around you that's in the process of shifting and you need to give it time before you can proceed. There may be things that you need to learn that are incredibly important to your future path while you are in this time of pause. Pay attention to everything going on around you and really use this time to observe and learn. The information that you gain during this time will be helpful to you in the future.

Choose Your Ghost Story!

One of my favorite things about Halloween and Samhain is reading ghost stories. I'll admit I love to read about ghosts and paranormal experiences all year long. It's the energy of places that I can sense when I go there that has me craving stories like these, especially stories of places that I can go and visit.

Last year I had you choose a book to read before Samhain that was spooky, about a ghost or related to Halloween in some way. This year I want to challenge you to find a story that is about ghosts or spirits in your area. For example Haunted America does an amazing series of books that are fun to read and most of them are short and easy reads.



Ghosts of Salem is one example for you. This is one that I am hoping to dig into over the next couple of weeks as I've spent a lot of time in Salem and on the New England Coast.

See if you can find one for the state you live in or even better for the area you live in. Bonus if you can get some time to go explore the area and see what you pick up!

Messages In the Sand

Messages in the Sand

Last weekend I was able to take a much needed weekend off with Earl and go to Cape Cod and Plymouth. While the weather was a bit chillier than we had hoped we bundled up and still had an amazing time out on the beach on the Cape and exploring many of my favorite spots in Plymouth.

One thing that I thought was amazing about this weekend is that we were seeing signs in the sand everywhere. It was really neat. I almost fell over when I found the one above. It was one of the last ones that I found and it looks so much like a triple spiral to me. 

 



This is the first one that we found. If you look carefully you can make out Cape Cod in the shells. There were horseshoe crabs absolutely everywhere and slipper shells. We brought home a big bag of them.

The Plymouth Grist Mill

The Plymouth Grist Mill

I adore New England for so many reasons but some of the old seaside towns are really special to me. Plymouth is one of the towns that I just fell in love with.

This photo is of the Old Grist Mill in Plymouth. I'll be honest we stood there for awhile trying to figure out how in the world they got the pumpkins on the rocks in the middle of the waterfalls without getting soaked!



There's a better view of it. Isn't it beautiful. I love New England in the fall, especially when they are all decorated for Halloween. Our leaves are all changing right now and we are surrounded in reds and yellows everywhere. The weather is getting colder here incredibly fast. By Halloween our leaves are usually all off the trees and on the ground for everyone to stomp through when we go trick or treating.

The Full Samhain Moon Tomorrow Night - Spell Ingredients, Last Calls and What You Need to Know!

The Full Moon Tomorrow

Merry Meet :) Are you excited for tomorrow night's Full Moon? I've spent the last couple of hours working on tomorrow's Full Moon edition of Daily Magick and I'm pretty excited about it. I have the ingredients that you will need for tomorrow's spells that I wanted to get to you today so you have time to gather them.

The first ingredients are for a ritual that is all about honoring the changes happening in your life and helping you with a special tribute to your loved ones on the other side. For this ritual you need 5 small pumpkins, 5 tealights, Wheel of Fortune card from your tarot deck or a Jara Rune, Gold and Silver Candles, White and black cords and Frankincense incense. The white and black cords you can make yourself out of any type of material just use two white strands, one black and braid them. If you don't have a tarot deck please feel free to draw your own Wheel of Fortune card. The pumpkins need to be large enough to carve and hold a tealight.

The second spell for tomorrow is a special Samhain Full Moon Tea. This tea is meant to bring you balance and help you with your intuitive work throughout the month. For that you need a blood orange. If you are unable to find a blood orange you can use a normal orange. Vanilla beans are expensive, if you can access a tiny bit of one that's amazing if not it's perfectly ok! Grab some vanilla extract and it will work amazing. You want a cinnamon stick and a tiny amount of cloves. You will also need a tea ball or some cheesecloth to put the loose ingredients in so your tea tastes good.

October is a busy month. Originally the eighth month of the year (octo being eight) in the Roman calendar, it was set back to the tenth month around 700 BCE, when King Numa Pompilius revised the calendar and added January and February. Its astrological sign is Libra, the scales (September 23 – October 23), a cardinal air sign rules by Venus.

The ancient Egyptians celebrate the Festival of Het-hert or Hathor, on October 4th. The Romans celebrate Meditrinalia on October 11th, the tasting the new wine for the first time and honoring Jupiter as god of the wine. And the Celts close out their year at Samhain on October 31st.

In October, we enter the glorious late afternoon of the year. Bittersweet berries turn brilliant orange, and the woodland blazes with vibrant colors reminiscent of a Persian carpet. As October passes the door to the otherworld opens wider. We become more receptive to spiritual energies and feel drawn to bond with our ancestors.

The main holiday of October and one of the most magickal of the year is Samhain or Halloween. The veil thins, and we feel the presence of our ancestors and those we cherish who have passed over. Many seasonal decorations can help do this. The jack-o’-lantern illuminates a path so the spirit of our ancestors can find their way. Apples are used to feed the dead, so leave an apple near your door or on a plate at your table. Also we set a place at the table for them and celebrate with them the passing of another season and the closing of another year.

The name of October’s Full Moon, the Blood Moon, comes from the urge to connect with our ancestors. When the Blood Moon rises, it smolders like an ember in the autumn sky. She is a beacon for spiritual energy. Thank her by leaving an apple beneath a tree, or by burning some dried wormwood in a dish and meditating on your deceased loved ones.

The Death Card In October


October is a month that is full of changes. We often talk about how the veils are thinning and we can communicate with the other side. I think that more attention needs to be given to the energy of endings today and I wanted to take a look at that with you.

Perhaps it's because everyone fears endings? The Death Card in Tarot often scares people as they see it as Death.



This is the Death card from my main tarot deck the Mystic Dreamer Tarot. People are often afraid of this card as let's face it, if you don't read tarot, this looks like a pretty darn scary card! I remember the first time I looked at my deck being a bit intimidated by this card.

However as in my readings I want you to look at some things. The Death card doesn't always indicate a physical death. honestly in all my readings I'm not sure that I've ever had it come up in anyone's readings. I have had it come up in my personal reading for a fur baby but it was a specific question asked. The Death card in the tarot is the death of some thing in your life. It can indicate that a phase of your life is ending and you are getting ready to begin a new path. It can indicate the death of something going on in your life that is not for your greater good. It can indicate the death of something that you've been working on as it's finally complete, or the end of something that you've been waiting for. Honestly it is a pretty positive card in the deck but it is one of the most feared cards because of how it is depicted and the word death.

When you look at the card I want you to focus on the girl who is white and flying to the sky indicating spiritual and emotional freedom from something in her life. The child who indicates that you may be able to recapture something magickal from your childhood or you may release something that you need to from your childhood. I have rainbows of your ancestors looking after you from the other side. Part of why I love the Mystic Dreamer Tarot is that there is so much in every card and the cards will change for me every time I read for someone.

October is like the Death card in Tarot. I think if we really emphasized the things that are coming to an end in your life right now it might freak you out a bit. However it's a matter of perspective. Let go, release any fears and release what you need to end this month. The energy around you is preparing you to start new things and making room for new energy around you. It's all about balance in energy. Without releasing old energy you cannot embrace new energy.

Embrace your ancestors this month, those you have lost, fur babies that you have lost and then transform that energy into something positive that you can take with you. I know for some of you who have suffered recent losses that can be difficult. In time though you will be able to use their energy to help give you strength as I can assure you they are on the other side watching out for you.

Really go with the flow and embrace this energy of change that's around of you. While it can be a scary time I urge you not to be afraid of it as it will go smoother if you trust and let go.

Who's Coming To Visit You With the Thinning Veil


As the Veil thins it's easier for those on the other side to communicate with us. It's easier for them to find the energy to appear for us. It's easier to pass messages back and forth.

Who's coming to visit though?

You are going to find that people that you have lost in this life may come to visit but you may find that spirits from past lives may come to be near you now as well. You may also find that ancestors that you've met and some that you've never met will come to check on you. There seems to be a pretty significant uptick in spirit communication overall.

Think about those people in your life that may come to visit you. If you wish to receive messages from them do things to celebrate their memory. For instance if you would welcome signs from your ancestors work on the ancestry in your family. Look through old photos, ask relatives for stories. In doing this you keep their energy alive and you can make it easier for them to come and visit you.

I do want to emphasize that just because you haven't noticed any signs or communication doesn't mean someone hasn't stopped by to see you. It's not always easy for those on the other side to communicate. I honestly find that the older souls and those who have traveled many lifetimes have an easier time. Please don't take it as a sign that they aren't alright if you haven't heard something. I also want to note for those of you who have recently lost loved ones that there seems to be a gap in time for communication. For instance when I lost my Grandparents with both of them I saw immediate signs in the week after they passed, then they slowly stopped and I didn't see anything for awhile. With time I started seeing signs again. It seems to vary at that point on the person and the age of their soul.

I hope all of you are enjoying the countdown so far! So how many of you know why we celebrate Samhain?

Samhain is a Sabbat that we use to honor our ancestors that came before us. It's a wonderful time to work with the spirit world as it is one of two times during the year when the veil is at it's thinnest. This is part of why you will see an emphasis on spiritual work during this time of year. If you have any loved ones on the other side I always encourage communication with them as they can always hear you. However this time of year you are more likely to notice signs from them back. So if you have a loved one on the other side that you are looking for a message from pay attention to everything going on around you as you may find that they are sending you messages.

It is also the beginning of the Celtic New Year. Summer is over, the harvest has been gathered and the leaves are falling from the trees as we head into the dark time of the year. It's a time to finish anything that you need to and get ready to begin anew. Think about what you want when you begin anew.

It is thought that the ancient Celts believed that on this final night of their year when the veil was at it's thinnest that the spirits were released and allowed to roam the Earth. They were concerned that not all spirits were friendly so they would wear masks or disguises to scare away any unfriendly or evil spirits. This is the beginning of what we see today as Halloween costumes. Of course they have evolved quite a bit over the years. Have you thought about what you will wear for Samhain night this year?
