The Importance of Keeping Magickal Mood Journals

How many of you see everyone running around talking about how wonderful the Full Moon is and wonder why you feel like you just got hit by a truck and are completely exhausted? For empaths the Full Moon can be completely exhausting. It honestly took me years to figure out the correlation. I finally noticed that every Full Moon when it came time to work with magick I was completely exhausted. I started tracking it and noticed that it was incredibly consistent. I also noticed that on the day of the New Moon I had new and refreshed energy and I felt much better.

Another example is when a storm is coming in. I often know a storm is coming long before those skies start to turn as I get an incredible headache and depending how bad the storm is that's coming through it can make me incredibly fatigued and even cause dizziness.

Part of your path is getting to really know yourself. It's helpful to know if there are things in your life that are impacting your mood and how you feel in life. If you know things like the Full Moon can make you feel exhausted, then you can plan to get some extra rest around that time and drink some extra water. At the very least you will know to watch for it and understand why you feel the way you do.

Magickal Journals are incredibly important when you are working with energy. However what I don't see mentioned a lot is how important your mood is when you are working with magick. You can have the most amazing ritual on the most beautiful Full Moon and if you are cranky because you are absolutely exhausted, there's a very good chance that the work that you put in is not going to work. In some cases you may find that it can have adverse reactions as well. This is why it's so important that you really keep track of your moods.

Even if you don't work with magick at all it's still important to keep track of your moods. You will find that it can help you in so many aspects of your life.

Grab a special journal and keep it specifically to track your emotions, you can keep it as simple as you want or you can give lots of details. This is your journal. These are the types of things you want to track:

Lunar Cycles

Weather Patterns

Astrological Events

Seasonal Shifts

To make it easier on yourself you can get those little sticky tabs to help you organize. You can stick them on the pages to help you categorize. For instance give all Lunar events a blue tab, weather a green, seasonal orange and so on. Whatever helps you to recognize the patters so that you can use them moving forward.

Magickal Moon Journal

The other day we talked about how the energy of the Full Moon can impact you. How about the energy of the Moon all the other times? I know I adore the New Moon because I am always filled with this refreshing energy and I have a ton of positive energy around me on that day. It's part of why I work with the New Moon so frequently.

I also know that when the Moon is in Virgo I have a special connection to the energy as I am a Virgo. I will find that I am generally more upbeat on those days and energetic. Kinda neat right?

So here's what you want to do. Grab a journal that you can write down thoughts and ideas in. You can do this for the major phases of the Moon or you can keep a very detailed journal each day and see if you can find the patter. So for instance how do you feel when the Moon is void of course, new, full, waning, waxing, in Virgo or any other sign? There's a ton of possibilities right? :))) The more detailed you are the more you will find out. :)))

When you figure out some patterns it will help you to decide the best times for your magickal work as I found the New Moon was an amazing time for me to do my energy work. It will also show you where your challenges are, so if they happen to be on a night like the Full Moon, you can better prepare for that. :)))

The amount of time you put into this will determine the amount of magickal energy that you get back. :))) This can be an invaluable tool for your magickal work. :))))

Evocation and Invocation

Evocation and Invocation

Merry Meet :)))) Many of you are probably familiar with the Evocation of the Witch and the Invocation of the Goddess below. Both were written by Silver Ravenwolf, who is one of the first authors I started reading several years ago. I love both of these and have them in my Book of Shadows. :))

To invoke is to call something to manifest within a person place or thing. The word evocation means to call something to show itself. They are really quite similar and often are interchangeable with the word call. :))) Both of these are wonderful to use during rituals or even before a spell to help you with raising your energy and vibration. I personally love the evocation of a witch as I feel it's very powerful and uplifting. :)))))

Lesson 14 Magickal Record Keeping

Merry Meet,

Tonight I turn in Lesson 14 Magickal record keeping.  Only one more lesson to go until I can take my final exam! I am wicked excited! :)  This lesson was pretty easy for me.  Some of it I have already been doing.  It went into the three basic forms of magickal record keeping, Dream Journal, Personal Journal, and Book of Shadows.

I have had my Magickal Journal since starting at the Mists since it is a requirement.  It is definitely a practice that I have come to love though I do need to get over and do it more often. :)) I see so many things as I go throughout my day that I would love to write about and seem to not get the time.  I am going to get a small notebook that I can put it my purse so that I can jot down notes.  I think this will make it easier when I do get time to sit down to remember all that I wanted to write about.

I have had a Dream Journal for a little while now though this is an area I really really need to improve upon.  A lot of messages I receive come to me right when I'm about to fall asleep or during my dreams.  I will remember them first thing in the morning but I always run to grab my coffee first and somehow never make it back to write things down.  So this is a personal goal that I am going to work on as well.  I have moved my dream journal closer on the alter to my bed so I will see it right away in the morning.  I've also made sure there is a pen there with it.  ;) Now if I could only get the pot of coffee next to my bed.......

My Book of Shadows :)))))) It's ordered! I am sooooooo excited.  This is something I've been looking into for a little while now but was apprehensive to start it as I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted.  I am getting a three ring binder so that it will be easier for me to add pages and reorganize.  Definitely a must for me lol :)))) It is soooooo pretty I can't wait to get it.  It is made by Zazzle and has an antique look to it.  The detail on it is just amazing for a binder.  It says Book of Shadows on the front and it has a pentacle on the back with the elements listed around it.  If you would like to take a peek you can see it here:  http://www.zazzle.com/book_of_shadows_binder-127154242063419990?rf=238180067058904010   I was unable to get a picture for here due to copyright issues.   It is a requirement for the second degree so I am looking forward to get it set up and ready to continue on my journey.  I already have some ideas of things I want to put in it, such as a copy of the Wiccan Rede and copies of some of the artwork I've done throughout my journey with the Mists.  I will post a picture of it when I receive it :))))
