"Many of use many methods to seek serenity and peace,
such things can be found in quiet contemplation
under the light of the moon."

- Jasmeine Moonsong

Merry Meet and Good Morning :))) Blessings to you and yours for a magickal day today. Today is Monday, October 15, 2012

Mondays are ruled by the magic and mystery of the Moon and are days of peace, sleep, healing, compassion, friends, psychic awareness, purification, and fertility. The moon and humanity are intrinsically linked. The moon affects so many cycles in our lives like the ocean’s tides, feminine cycles, and seasonal cycles. Today, focus on accepting change gracefully, release your anxieties and past hurts and let go of your past. If you are working with stones today choose pearls, moonstones or crystals for protection. Use emeralds for amulets.

Tonight's is the night of the New Moon. The New Moon is a time of new beginnings, hope, faith and optimism. Use this night to work any magick to set the pace for what you want to happen this lunar cycle. This New Moon begins in Libra drawing emphasis to the self, central ideas, or institutions, and away from connections with others and other emotional needs. People tend to be melodramatic. It enters Scorpio at 8:06 p.m. The Moon in Scorpio increases awareness of psychc power. It precipitates psychic crises and ends connections thoroughly. People can tend to brood and become secretive. The magickal color of the day is White, and the incense of the day is Clary Sage. Have an amazingly magickal day!!!

Herbs And Their Witchy Names

original graphic by: LorelainW

Herbs and Their Witchy Names

Merry Meet,

One of the things you might notice when working with spells is they call for some different ingredients. For example, eye of newt, wool of bat, toe of frog. To some who happen across these spells it can help lend to some of the fear surrounding witches. However, none of these ingredients are literal. For example, if you see eye of newt in a spell, you are not going go out and get an actual eye from a newt. It actually refers to mustard seed. The reason we have these names, stems from ancient times when it was not safe to keep spells about. So to protect the craft these names would be used instead. Some of them are just Old English, and some even date back to ancient China. A lot of times it will be based on what the herb resembles. Many witches still use these names to this day. So I wanted to provide you with a basic list that you can use to work with. As you find more you can add more to it. :))

Xylomancy

Xylomancy

For those of you that are Harry Potter fans, Hogwarts teaches a class in Xylomancy, where they analyze burnt pieces of woods for answers to their questions. It is also sometimes referred to as Xylomantia. Xylomancy is derived from the Greek words xylo, which means wood, and manteia, which means divination. It's a method of looking at twigs, fallen tree branches, or other pieces of wood for divining the past present or future. Some other methods of Xylomancy which are closely related are Dendromancy, and Tephromancy.

In ancient times in Slavonia, they would look at the shape and position of the pieces of wood found on their paths. In biblical times the seers would look for patterns in fallen pieces of wood.

Later on in history, people would remove the bark from the branches, and then toss these branches to the ground and interpret the patterns in which they fell. Another method was to interpret the patterns of logs in the fireplace as they fell when they were burned.

The Rule Of Three

original graphic by: Indigo Designs

The Rule of Three

Merry Meet :)))

As Wiccans we believe in the three-fold law. Simply put it states that whatever energy a person puts out into the world, be it positive or negative, will be returned to that person three times. While you will find some debate about it's validity, it's a rule that I try to live by as best I can as I personally do believe in it. In many places you will see it called the Three-Fold Law. I'm not a big fan of calling something a law and prefer to consider it as a universal principal for us to live with. Not only will you find it in Wicca but in many other religions as well. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I also think it goes along nicely with the Law of Attraction. The law of attraction is essentially a belief or theory, that "like attracts like," and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results.

This goes into all areas of our lives. From how we treat our friends and family members to how we help those who are strangers. I believe it applies to plants, animals and every aspect in your life. As I believe everything in life is made of energy and how we work with that energy is how that energy works with us. I've been asked often why I don't seek revenge when something has been done wrong to me, and that's quite simple, I don't believe I have to. What goes around comes around and I try my best not to put anything negative out there as I don't want it coming back to me. It's a different way of living life. Now will I defend or protect if I need to, absolutely. However, I always look for a way to do it in which it will not cause harm. An example of this is when someone is angry with me, rather then striking back, I typically will send healing and loving energy to that person. You would be amazed at the results this can have. If things feel really tough for me I will call upon the angels to assist. I do not believe it is my job to cast judgement.

This also is an extremely important principal to work with when working with magic. I will do my best to never put anything out there that could possibly have a negative affect on others. I am very careful with the spells I choose to work with. To me, I believe that's very important. I believe it adds to the energy of my craft and the gifts in life I have been entrusted with.

When you live your life following this to the best of your ability it is very healing for you as well. You won't carry the baggage of negative energy that can way you down. It doesn't allow negative karmic ties to you. You will feel the support and love of the divine easier. I do believe it is a very important aspect of being Wiccan. :)

Wiccan Creation Myth

Wiccan Creation Myth

The following is an article I wrote about the Wiccan Creation Myth when studying for my first degree. For my studies I was asked to describe the Creation Myth. The lesson detailed Starhawk's creation myth for those that are familiar with it. I had a bit of a hard time grasping it so I went on to do some additional research to gain a better understanding of it.

I read several Wiccan creation myths to find one that settled well with me. The majority of the myths that I read seem to agree that in the beginning their was one, the all, our Goddess. She was in the universe as the earth was not created at this point. Starhawk goes on to describe the Goddess, our Lady as seeing her image reflected in space and she grew to love this image, and the image came to take on it’s own being becoming a second Goddess known as Miria. As the Lady becomes consumed with ecstasy and love she rains down an energy and vibration that creates the world we have come to know. The vibrations become to much for the Goddess Miria and she slowly moves away from the Lady. Her distance leads her to become male and come into being the Lord that we know today.

I must confess, the first thing that jumped out at me when reading these myths was that the myths involved the Lady being first. Being brought up Protestant I was schooled in the Adam and Eve creation myth and I found it interesting to see how that myth had been taken from the Pagan myth and turned about to be man coming first. My difficulty with this Starhawk’s myth is that the Lord doesn’t come into being until later and that he originates as a female. I suppose difficulty may be too harsh of a word. After reading the myths I have developed a preference for Llewellyn’s myth which is as follows.

A long time ago the world was in darkness and consisted of nothingness.

From this nothingness, spirit created our Lady.

The lady danced in the heavens. While she danced sparks of light came from her giving birth to the stars and planets. She twirled as she danced and the planets and stars began to move with her in the universe. Her dancing quickened and the oceans and mountains were formed on earth. As she chanted words of joy and love, these words fell to the earth creating the trees and flower.

Her breath created a pure white light creating the colors of the universe giving everything a vibrant beauty of color. Her laughter gave the sounds of the running streams, lappings of the lakes, and roars of the ocean waves. Her tears of joy become the rain.

When she slowed her dancing our Lady wanted a companion to share with all the joy that she had created. Spirit created the Lord as her soul mate. The Lord was made half spirit and half animal so that together the Lord and Lady could populate the planet Earth. The Lord and Lady created angels and power spirits to guide the population. Though they are not always seen they are always with us.

As the population started to grow and become prosperous the Lord and Lady saw a need for healers among them. The Lord and Lady drew the energy from the realm of the angels, power animals and humans, to create the Witches. Witches were given the wisdom of the Lord and Lady, the ability to heal, and the art of magic. They were taught how to talk to the spirits and how to communicate with the energies or earth, air, fire, water and spirit, and how to commune with the animal and plant kingdom.

The myth goes on to explain the history of the witch and how we came to be today. I find this myth very comforting, and as I have learned in my studies to follow my own path and my heart and soul this is the myth that I have taken close to my heart. I respect all the creation myths that I read and I recognize that everyone will find the one that settles best with them on their path. One of my reasons for loving Wicca so much is the ability to learn and discover and choose my own path. :)
