So what happened? We have a ton of influences in our life, from the people who surround us, to where we receive education, to social media, the news, books we read, and the list goes on and on. Are all of these influences bad? No. Some of them will help you to become stronger and closer to who you want to truly be. Your job is to really weed out what truly feels right to you and in line with who you are and learn to quiet those influences that will bring you away from you or influence you in the wrong way.
Sounds easy right? It's not! There are a myriad of things you need to look at. Another incredibly important influence is yourself. Think about this, if you were hurt by someone in the past and they were a painter... would it not cause you to look at painters different every time you see one? It's a bit of a dramatic example but do you see how that could influence you?
One of the biggest influences in your life is worry and or fear. As you go through the next week or two really pay attention to how these two impact your life because it's a big one. Have you ever had the urge to go and talk to a group of people but you didn't because you were afraid of their response? This is an example of how you should honor your true self. That's you wanting to be social and you holding yourself back in the case of worry.
Think of yourself like an onion and look for those layers that aren't who you truly are. Perhaps you are in a career that has absolutely nothing to do with what you want to do in life? Am I saying to go and quit your job? No. Honor who you wish to truly be. For instance say you're an accountant and your dream since you were little was to work with animals. Perhaps after work you can volunteer to work at a local shelter helping out. That way you aren't abandoning what's putting food on the table, but you recognize it, acknowledge it, and then do something to honor who you truly are. Maybe it's enough of a pull that you want to go back to school for what you want? It's never too late. ;) I've heard countless stories of people who go back so much later in life to gather an education in what they wish so they can do what they want.
So as we move towards the new year I really want you to think about this. What layers do you need to peel away. This isn't a fast process it can take years. I'm still working on it and I've been actively working on it for almost 10 years now. It's been a very long but rewarding journey. I was a financial analyst at one of the top businesses in the area that I live in, if not the top. You had to go through a series of tests and had to have a Bachelor's degree in Business just to get in. I hate math. LOL :))) I would love to tell you I left on purpose but it didn't happen that way. When I had Melody 14 years ago now they wanted me to stay full time. I wanted time with Melody. They pushed and I pushed and finally I just left. They tried to make me stay by making it impossible for me to work part time. I worked for a life insurance company and I was responsible for group billing for New York, the largest agency they had. The problem? No one else knew how to handle it and I had a strong reputation for getting stuff done with the most difficult of agents. They weren't all that difficult once they realized I did my job. That is why I left the corporate world.
So what in the world was I doing in business? Honestly? I wanted to go to art school in Rhode Island by the ocean. My Mother advised me that there wasn't any money in art and I'll be honest, at the time I was going in 1995 the internet wasn't what it was today and it would have been an incredibly difficult occupation to make a living at. That's how I wound up in Business. While I did wind up in business because I am running my own business now, I definitely had no idea how that degree would play out in my future.
I still remember the psychic who told me over 10 years ago now before Cole was born that I was a psychic and I would be making a living as a tarot reader. You're going to be supporting your family she told me. I thought she was out of her mind. In no universe did I ever think I would memorize 56 cards. I really don't like memorizing things. I didn't understand how tarot worked, and here I am today doing what I love. I play with the arts in my free time because that is still a strong love of mine.
So why do I tell you all this? Some of those layers you are going to identify and remove on your own. Sometimes the universe is going to help you and you are going to be strongly nudged in that direction. Work on being aware of who you truly are and keep peeling back those layers. It will be worth it I promise you.
